In keeping with its child friendly policy, The Ker & Downey Botswana Safari for 2019 will be contributing a percentage of its profit to Bana Ba Letsatsi, Ker & Downey Botswana’s social responsibility project. Bana Ba Letsatsi (which means ‘children of the sun’) cares for over 240 vulnerable and orphaned children in Maun. Their mission is to keep children at risk in Maun off the streets and away from negative influences by empowering them through education and support. The children are at risk because they suffer either a lack of parental care, have never been to or have dropped out of school, suffer abuse at home or in the neighbourhood or they have abused drugs and/or alcohol.

CAMP INFORMATION

Shinde Camp
Nestled on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta, Shinde is an intimate camp located at the edge of Shinde lagoon, teeming with animal and birdlife. The main lodge’s unique tree house made of a multi-tiered raised dining/lounge area under canvas, set amongst the shade of ebony and mangosteen, complements the atmosphere of this original safari camp. Shinde comprises of eight twin bedded classic safari tents each with ensuite bathrooms, hot and cold running water and flush toilet. Every possible comfort has been catered for – from mosquito nets, electric ceiling fans, generated electricity and a private viewing deck through to a decanter of sherry! Each tent, strategically positioned, offers splendid views, whether across the Delta’s mysterious waterways or open grasslands. Accommodation is generally twin share on comfortable three quarter beds, however double accommodation is available on request.

Kanana Camp
Kanana is a hidden jewel set on the Xudum River in the southwest of the Okavango Delta. The area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs,
ebony and knobthorn, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals. The nature of the habitat means it is the perfect place to experience the diversity of species found within the Okavango Delta. At Kanana guests are accommodated in eight spacious, twin-bedded safari units, set on raised teak decks, offering breathtaking views across the waterways. Dependent on the annual floods, the level of water transforms this dry camp into a true water experience and in the early months of the year you may actually enjoy the visible spectacle of the water rising around the camp. All tents offer en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet. The tents are well spaced affording privacy, whilst still being within comfortable distance from the central dining and lounge area.

With a minimum 3 night stay, Kanana Camp offers a sleep out option available at no extra cost. This enables guests to experience an exciting night under a star filled African sky in complete warmth and comfort. The sleep out deck is constructed on two levels. The upper deck provides your sleeping quarters while the lower deck provides easily accessible amenities. Enjoy the cool night air and the African bush sounds as you drift into a restful sleep.

Okuti Camp
Located in the Xakanaxa area of Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta. This delightful camp lies alongside the Maunachira River which flows through the Xakanaxa
Lagoon, within the world renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Offering a welcome touch of comfort, Okuti has recently been rebuilt amidst the wilderness of one of Botswana’s prime game viewing regions. Okuti is open all year round. Okuti caters for a maximum of 18 guests, accommodation in insect-proofed units each with ensuite bathroom, hot and cold running water and flush toilets. Five units are twin share and two are family units consisting of two rooms sharing a bathroom, ideal for families as Okuti is a child friendly lodge.

Dinaka Camp
An exclusive private reserve hugging the northern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Dinaka is host to one of the most unique biodiversities in Southern Africa.
This ever-changing desert landscape gives refuge to the Kalahari lion, springbok, Oryx and brown hyena. The camp itself was acquired in 2017 and provides the perfect start or finish to any discerning travellers Botswana safari. Guests are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double-bedded safari tents, each en-suite bathroom has an indoor and outdoor shower, hot and cold running water and flush toilet. Families are accommodated in a two-bedroomed tent, sharing a spacious en-suite bathroom – ideal for families in this child-friendly camp. Dinaka’s tents are well spaced and raised up on wooden decks giving the perfect vantage point over a permanent water hole. Connected by wooden walkways all areas of camp are accessible by wheelchair.
The annual rains transform the arid desert landscape into a lush profusion of Kalahari vegetation, offering guests a unique insight into the lesser known desert experience.
The Sleep Out Deck offers guests a panoramic view and the opportunity to spend the night under the magnificent African night sky.
